Pharmacotherapy safety is one of the biggest challenges in modern medicine. It is estimated that up to 10-15% of hospitalizations are due to adverse drug interactions or medication errors. However, there is a lack of simple, personalized tools that can support the patient in daily monitoring of therapy and informed use of medications. In response to this problem, MediLyze, an intelligent system to support pharmacotherapy safety, was developed. The mobile application combines pharmaceutical data, interaction analysis algorithms and user profile to identify potential interactions between drugs, supplements and comorbidities. In addition, it supports patient education and improvement of therapeutic adherence (regularity of medication intake). The project was completed as part of an engineering thesis and is currently in the testing phase with a group of users of different ages and levels of technological competence. Test results confirm the system’s high usability and intuitiveness. MediLyze is developing for integration with drug databases and e-health systems, providing an example of a practical combination of biomedical engineering, computer science and health education.
